First of all to start with, This movie is the first movie review that this blog has ever posted besides the imaginary movie reviews that impressed the CTS HR guy…

15-06-2007 Morning: 09:12 hrs

I happen to get out of my sombre really quickly with Thalaivar’s movie in my mind… The imagination of Thalaivar’s moves, the style made me goes back to sleep again but the real interruption was that of friend’s phone call that of G.Mahesh Subramanian’s. A blessed soul who happened to get the First Day First Show ticket despite booking the ticket later than me… Thanks to Mr.Thirumal who got them tickets. Deepz and Mahesh came to my house by 9:30 and we left for the First Show to reach by 10:15 AM.

Man O Man… The Road was thick with people, expecting the unexpected from Thalaivar.

45 minutes to go… 400 strong-crowd were strolling around the gate of The Vetrivelan Theatre (enga Theatre Gettthu) for the gates to open. The Formalities of Thalaivar’s Padum started with 4 Packets of Arogya Pal being sprayed on the Thalaivar’s 10 Feet Cut-Out followed by a 1000 wala and a Coconut. Starting of a movie auspiciously always is a turn on for the fans. Even Uncles (mama’s) lathi charge could stop the enthusiasm of the fans.

The Matinee show started by 3:15 pm which was unusually late.

The Game starts now….

The Rush in 'Enga Area ' Theater

The ‘SUPER STAR’ tag line hit the screen and we went frenzy. This time, there was no LED type SUPER STAR tag line sadly.

The Screening of the Title was astonishingly different. It bore the old Tamizh Movie kinda of Font then a massive explosion of Graphics to a stylish slick metal blue Sexy ‘Sivaji’ The Boss tag.

The next shock from the defibrillator came. That gave an impression of how Shankar had twisted his plot. The Movie started with a prisoner being taken into the jail with his face covered. Slowly the prisoner was taken in and was put in his room. After a few questions from the neighbour on his arrival and a series of ‘no’ as answers the prisoner turned to his Fans. That was the arrival that was the moment when Super star laughed and entered the scene. Couldn’t be more dramatic. That was the time I almost lost my voice… This type of introduction was never ever seen before... in any kind of Rajni movie… The Flash-back was the arrival of Sivaji to Chennai from New-York. Vivek started his Charisma right where he left it in ‘Anniyan’. On the arrival, Vivek starts his so-called mama Vellai with bunch of babes for Sivaji to marry. As usual Sivaji insists for a Tamizh girl with all the rubbish acharam and stuff and from the next day they scout for ‘Mami’s ‘in temples. Sivaji throws a party revealing his 25 year dream of building a University that would impart free education, Hospitals that would treat people freely and industries that would employ 1000’s of people much to derision of Mr. Adhi (Suman) who happens to be a leading business man. The ‘Balley Lakaa’ song starts shortly after the party reminding Sivaji of Tamizh girls. The song has been extravagantly shot with ‘typical’ Shankar kind of stuff hanging around the settings… The Clay ‘Kala Madoo’ and people coloured from head to toe either in yellow or red… The scenery was stunning and fields looked so damn green that I thought whether Mr.Photoshop effects were in play. Nayanthara looked incredibly stunning and thanks to Mr.Simbu for leaving here alone.

The introduction of Shreya as ‘Tamizhselvi’ was reminded me about the Soft-focus option in Picasa. It was good… just like a normal tamizh movie… A frame of each physical dimension of the heroine … her foot her lips and etc., Instantaneously Rajni shows interest towards her and decides that she must be his life partner.

Sivaji decides to move on with his project and decides to take help of Adhi. But Adhi in turn refuses to help him since he was making the education thing as his business and asks Sivaji to start some other business like Real Estate. Sivaji turns down his offer and decides to get the approval on his own. People refuse to sanction his project despite his stubborn stand on the rules and regulations.

After being flung from Pillar to Post, Sivaji resigns to the Blood-suckers and bribe them accordingly to start his construction.

Mr. Adhi plays the monkey and throws the spanner in the construction work. Mean-while Sivaji acts as the lover boy and tries to win the heart of Tamizhselvi. The scene where he eats a plate full of chillies and dashing away to the restroom to vomit the stuff was really funny and reminded me of the young Rajni with the Pambu Comedy. Eventually Tamizhselvi falls in love with Sivaji and their love affair starts. The ‘Vaaji Vaaji Sivaji’ song started and put people around in the state of drool. The settings were like never-seen-before things. Thota Tharani yet again proved his mettle. It was a ‘Roman Emperor’ kinda of set up with tall pillars resembling the interiors of Catholic Churches. The Costumes couldn’t be more extravagant. Shreya looked like a princess with a tan that could throw people off the seat.

Adhi obstructs the construction again and asks the minister to involve. The minister instructs his officers to pull down the Sivaji University. Sivaji is furious and hapless as before and approaches the Minister. He asks him to remove the orders on the Construction and the minister asks a bribe of 50 Crores to settle the issue.

Sivaji pledges his house and every asset that he has and makes up the 50 Crores. The Construction starts again and the love-affair again starts. Shreya has an issue of Sivaji being black and Sivaji starts a fresh set of antics and tries to turn his skin to a fairer complexion. The whole procedure of him turning into a fairer Sivaji was rib-tickling… Applying the entire ‘fair and lovely’ tube(s) from top to toe, settling himself in the Salts from Dead Sea was very funny. Then started the ‘Most Awaited Song ‘of the movie … ‘Oru Kudhai Sunlight ‘. I still remember drooling with Shreya in that outfit. Thalaivar was stunning and looks like the GFX team has done a stunning effort of that complexion thing.

Just after the song comes the twist in the ‘Therie Kadhai’. The Current ministry is taken out and is replaced by a faithful dog of Mr Adhi. Immediately the Construction work is stopped again and again Sivaji is made to run from pillar to post.

By the twist of events Sivaji loses the entire property and the whole construction is stopped. Adhi mocks Sivaji on losing the case and the entire money in this plot and asks Sivaji to beg in a polished way by giving a One Rupee coin.

The Further story unfolds with Sivaji uses the one-rupee to win back the entire money and fulfil his 25-year old dream.

Things Noticed:

The ‘Adhiradi Kalam’ was a knock off the entire final scene of the Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Once upon a time in Mexico’ and a part of ‘Desperado’. Shreya looked like a damsel and in the ‘Adhiradi Kalam’ looked just like ‘Salma Hayek’.

Vivek’s performance was laudable. His romantic and fighting skills were the only things that weren’t enlisted in this movie. Suman as Adhi carved his own niche and soft-spoken volcanism might trigger a new genre of Villains.

Last but not the least, A pure entertainer for Thalaivar’s fans and looks like a movie that would stick on to the screen as long as the glory dies down.
